Dr. Heinrich grew up in Ontario, her first jobs were retraining Standardbred racehorses for riding and milking cows. She attended the University of Guelph first completing a BSc in Animal Biology and then an MSc in Animal Behaviour and Welfare before attending Ontario Veterinary College and graduating in 2012. She practiced in mixed and small animal general practice until starting her behaviour residency which she completed in 2023 and is now board-certified with the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists. She is Alberta’s first DACVB.
Dr. Heinrich’s research focused on pain management of dairy calves following dehorning. Her professional interests include compulsive disorders and generalized fear and anxiety. She will happily see any species, including birds, for concerns with behaviour. Between completing residency and writing boards she spent a year working with marine mammals and wildlife including belugas, dolphins, seals, sea lions, black bears, bison, elk and deer.
In her spare time Dr. Heinrich enjoys spending time with her husband and two children. She is also still riding and training horses and runs ultramarathons. She has two Standard Poodles, one perfect in every way and the other a behaviour case, and a lovely grey cat.
